22.04.23 - 16.07.23
Latrobe Valley artist Kate Zizys’ solo exhibition Ape Trip showcases her expertise in diverse printmaking techniques, including etching, relief printing, stencilling, photogravure, and embossing.
This exhibition explores historical ideas and concepts rooted in popular religious beliefs through the use of symbols and archetypes. In this body of work featured in this exhibition, figures such as Pistic Sophia, the Biblical Serpent and the Lion-headed Demiurge emerge through multilayered and vividly coloured works.
Zizys’ work suggests that despite our varied pursuits and technologies, we share common archetypes and dreamscapes, residing in stories of our own imagination. The exhibition invites audiences to reflect on humanity’s relationship with the mysterious universe, and consider the parallels between historical manifestations and contemporary Western global culture – highlighting the enduring nature of familiar symbols and narratives.
