Kinetic Playground
07.05.22 - 18.09.22
Kinetic Playground was created in 2022 for the Latrobe Regional Gallery winter programme, taking inspiration from concurrent exhibitions including Hazelwood and Field of Visions by Mira Gojak and Michael Prior. This version of the children’s art space explored the relationship between movement, creativity, and playful experimentation. Conceived as an active environment where young people could engage with art through their bodies as well as their imaginations, the space encouraged a sense of wonder, discovery, and joy through motion.
This project featured various interactive elements that invited children to consider ideas of energy, rhythm, construction, and cause-and-effect. My approach was centred on creating a space that was physically engaging, open-ended, and offering opportunities for both collaboration and self-directed exploration – valuing children’s instinctive relationship to motion as a mode of expression and inquiry.
Kinetic Playground saw not only children but people of all ages creating, dismantling, rebuilding, and reimagining.
